Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 12, 2026
This policy explains how Sleeper Labs LLC handles information when you use the Academic Games website or iOS app. Sleeper Labs LLC is a no-revenue entity, and this project exists purely for the community. Academic Games is an independent community project.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an online account, we collect the username and password you provide. We store the username and a salted password hash, not your plain-text password. Account registration does not ask for your email address, phone number, or real name. Please do not use personal information in your username.
Game and community information. We store information needed to run online games, such as room codes, game type and state, player usernames, scores, and group or tournament names, membership, and participation details.
Chat. Messages are sent to other people in your live game room. The game server also writes chat messages and usernames to its operational logs for troubleshooting. We do not store chat messages as game records in the application database. Heroku's default log history retains up to the latest 1,500 lines and is limited to one week; a line may contain chat text or a username.
Technical information. When you use online features, our hosting provider may process your IP address, connection details, browser or device information, and request times in order to deliver and secure the service. The website uses a session cookie to keep you signed in.
Offline practice. The iOS app stores your practice puzzle count and best streak locally on your device. This practice progress is not sent to our server. You can reset it from the app's Guide tab or remove it by deleting the app.
How we use information
We use this information to create and secure accounts, operate games and tournaments, show game results to participants, maintain the service, troubleshoot issues, respond to privacy requests, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, serve advertising, or include an analytics SDK in the iOS app.
Who receives information
Other participants in a game or group can see the usernames, messages, and game information needed to participate. We use Heroku for web hosting, application logs, and the hosted PostgreSQL database. Heroku processes technical information to provide its infrastructure and handles it under Salesforce's privacy policy. We may disclose information if required by law or when necessary to protect users, the service, or our legal rights. We do not otherwise share account information with third parties.
How long we keep information
Account records remain in the database until the account is deleted. Game, group, and tournament records do not currently have an automatic expiration period and may remain until deleted. Live game state held only in memory may be lost when the server restarts. Heroku's default log history is limited as described above. Offline practice progress remains on your device until you reset it or remove the app.
Your choices and requests
You can choose not to create an online account and still use offline arithmetic practice in the iOS app. You can reset offline progress in the app. Online accounts do not currently have a self-service deletion control. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of an online account and associated information, email onlineagfeedback@gmail.com from an address you control and include the account username. Please do not send your password. We will verify the request and respond; some information may be retained where the law requires it or where it is needed to resolve a dispute or protect the service. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under local law.
Children
Online accounts are not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Account creation does not ask for age, but usernames and chat messages are user-provided, so users should not include their real name, contact details, school, or other sensitive information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us at onlineagfeedback@gmail.com so we can review and delete it.
Security and changes
We use reasonable measures intended to protect information, including HTTPS for online connections. No internet service can guarantee perfect security. We may update this policy as the service changes; the effective date above will show when the current version took effect.
